Devlog #3: Alpha Has Begun, and Your Hero Came to Life

Third dev diary, and it comes with the biggest news yet.

Alpha has begun

Mysteries & Perils has entered Alpha. For this debut I built a complete Act 1, a whole first adventure from start to finish, made on purpose to put every core element of the project into play: creating your hero, choices that carry weight, combat, items, the world and the story. The first adventurers are already inside living all of it, and seeing real people crossing the scenes, rolling the dice and feeling every decision is the most real thing this project has ever given me.

It's a closed test, with a first group, so I can hear up close what already delights and what still needs polish. If you want to be among the next to set foot in this world, join the waitlist and stick around, because the next wave of adventurers comes straight from there.

Your hero now grows

Your hero no longer stops at the first step. Once they gather enough experience, they level up through a wizard that guides you one rung at a time: you watch their health grow, new strengths open up, and your adventurer get readier for what lies ahead. Every level-up is calculated and checked on the server, so the progression is solid, with no shortcuts and no cheating.

Every hero comes from somewhere

Nobody just appears in the world out of nowhere. Now every hero carries a background, an origin story that says who they were before the adventure, and it's no decoration: it grants ability bonuses, a feat and skills that truly shape how they perform. The soldier turned adventurer doesn't start the same as someone from another walk of life, and you feel it from the very first rolls.

A journal that writes itself

Every important milestone of your journey now gets recorded in an Adventure Journal. As you move through the scenes, the journal fills itself in with the moments that marked the story, and a soft glow lets you know when a new entry is waiting to be read. It's your saga written at the pace you live it, so you can go back and relive every step.

Your hero's sheet, all in one place

And to take it all in at a glance, your adventurer got a full character sheet: attributes, health, skills, abilities and the portrait, the whole page of your hero one tap away. It's where your entire creation comes together into a single thing, beautiful and easy to read.

Now on your phone, too

And here there's no "coming soon": Mysteries & Perils now runs on your phone just like on the computer. Same game, the same full adventure, start to finish, fitting in the palm of your hand. The game was born for the big PC screen, and bringing this whole stage to the phone was quite the task, but it's standing: now you play wherever you are, with the complete experience.

Closing the diary

It's been a lot since the last diary, and every one of these steps only moves forward because there are people following the build closely on the waitlist. If you want to see Mysteries & Perils grow and be among the next to play, join the waitlist and stick around, because the next diary won't be long.

May the dice roll in your favor. By Mario, creator of Mysteries & Perils.
